Emmy Her Many Horses (Siċaƞġu and Oglala Lak̇ot̄a)

Emmy (Lorna) Her Many Horses,Siċaƞġu and Oglala Lak̇ot̄a, is a citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. She was born and raised on the Rosebud Reservation before leaving to study at the University of Minnesota, where she earned her BA in Special Education. As an educator, Emmy has taught in community and classroom settings as a Dakota language instructor for children, adults, and in intergenerational settings, and has extensive experience teaching special education in resource and self contained life skills settings. After leaving education, Emmy worked as a non-profit manager overseeing curriculum development and national initiatives that serve Native youth and Native communities across the country. Currently, she is the director of the Lakota Language and Education Initiative at Thunder Valley Community Development Corporation, Pine Ridge Reservation. Emmy is also a Co-PI on the Documenting Diné and Lakota Ways of Communicating through Community-Driven, Collaborative Tribal Organization – University Partnerships project.

Emmy and her husband, David, live in Očhéthi Šakówiŋ Territory with their bulldogs. Away from her work, Emmy is also an author, musician, disability advocate, and Auntie.
